My fascination in the unique and ancient art of Chinese Brush Painting began 15 years ago. The nature of the brushes and the way the paper, paints and ink worked together was totally different to western art, which I found intriguing. From self taught beginnings, I have subsequently sought out mentors to further develop my style and technique.
Whether translating faded ancient masterpieces into more contemporary style, or adapting from subjects in nature, the end result is always about capturing of the spirit or ‘chi’ of the object, so is always unique to the eye of the painter.
The versatility of this medium lends itself equally to the calm fluidity of landscapes and flowers and the vitality of bird subjects.
